William Cannon at Bluff Springs Intersection Repairs
William Cannon at Bluff Springs Intersection Repairs
The City of Austin is making improvements at the intersection of William Cannon Drive and Bluff Springs Road to improve safety, address pavement concerns and provide a long-lasting roadway solution for the community.
Overview
The existing pavement at this intersection has deteriorated over time, raising concerns from residents and people who travel through the area. After evaluating repair options, engineers determined that reconstructing the intersection with concrete pavement would provide the most durable and cost-effective long-term solution.
Concrete pavement is designed to withstand heavy traffic and typically lasts longer than traditional asphalt, helping reduce the need for future repairs and maintenance. As part of the project, the City will also make improvements to curb ramps and pedestrian facilities to better meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility standards.
During construction, travelers can expect temporary lane closures and occasional traffic signal interruptions. Access through the intersection will be maintained whenever possible, but delays should be expected.

Project Updates
Status: Paused
August 3, 2026
The City of Austin is pausing the intersection rehabilitation project at William Cannon Drive and Bluff Springs Road. This decision reflects community feedback regarding the number of construction projects currently affecting William Cannon Drive east of I-35. While this work remains critical and a high priority for the City, delaying it will help reduce the cumulative impacts on travelers in the corridor. City staff will provide updated timelines and additional information once a new start date is determined, via Austin Mobility News and on this project website.
Other projects along William Cannon Drive will continue. Updates for the other projects affecting this stretch of William Cannon Drive will be posted regularly at:
