Burnet Road Corridor Project
About the Project
The City of Austin is improving Burnet Road from Koenig Lane to MoPac Expressway to make traveling along and across the corridor safer and easier for people walking, biking, driving and riding transit.
Funded by the voter-approved 2016 Austin Mobility Bond, the project includes sidewalks and shared-use paths, accessible crossings, bus stop improvements, intersection and traffic signal upgrades, roadway repairs and drainage improvements. Features vary by section.
The project is divided into three sections:
- South: Koenig Lane to US 183
- Central: US 183 to Bright Verde Way
- North: Bright Verde Way to MoPac Expressway
Construction is happening in phases, with a separate schedule for each section. Explore the sections below for improvements, construction progress and anticipated completion dates.

- Crosswalk signal (pedestrian hybrid beacon, or PHB) at Twin Oaks Drive
- Crosswalk signal (PHB) at Penny Lane/Doris Avenue

Current Construction
Construction began in March 2026. Work is happening in phases on walking and biking facilities and priority intersection improvements.
Expect lane shifts, temporary detours and changes to access as work moves through the section. Follow posted signs and allow extra travel time.

Planned Improvements
- Eight-foot-wide shared-use paths for people walking and biking.
- Bus stops designed for safer access by people walking, biking and riding transit, with accessible boarding areas.
- Intersection and traffic signal improvements at Research Boulevard, Waterford Center Boulevard, Longhorn Boulevard and Rutland Drive.
- Pavement repairs, new pavement markings and signs.
- Curb and gutter installation and driveway reconstruction.
- Utility adjustments and drainage improvements, including stormwater detention and water quality structures.
- Trees and landscaping along walking and biking facilities.
Previously Completed Improvements
- Bike and pedestrian improvements around Q2 Stadium and Kramer Station.
Current Construction
Construction update: September 30, 2026
Crews continued drainage and water-line construction, concrete work and shared-use path preparation. Traffic signal work progressed at Longhorn Boulevard and Waterford Center Boulevard, with additional foundation work remaining at Rutland Drive.
Anticipated completion: August 2027.
Expect lane shifts, temporary detours and changes to access as work moves through the section. Follow posted signs and allow extra travel time.
North Section
Bright Verde Way to MoPac Expressway

- New sidewalks, bike lanes and shared-use paths.
- Raised medians and turn lane improvements.
- Curb and gutter installation and driveway reconstruction.
- Bus stop improvements.
- Pavement repairs, new pavement markings and signs.

- Braker Lane sidewalk and intersection improvements
- Bus stop relocated near Bright Verde Way
Current Construction
Construction update: September 29, 2026
Construction began in June 2026. Crews continued curb and gutter construction, shared-use path preparation, storm-drain installation and traffic signal conduit work at Esperanza Crossing.
Anticipated completion: October 2028.
