INTRODUCTION TO THE COMMUNITY SURVEY

 

Austin Fire is developing a strategic plan to improve fire service and ensure we meet the highest professional standards. As part of that process, we are asking you for your input through this short survey to better understand two things:
 

  1. Where Austin may be at risk by identifying areas with higher fire danger, slower response times, or fewer fire safety resources.
  2. What the community expects from the fire department when it comes to emergency response, public education, and public safety.
     

Your feedback will help us learn what matters most, so please take a few minutes to share your thoughts.  Your private, anonymous answers will help shape the future of fire and emergency services in Austin.

Phase 1: Broad Community Input

AFD begins with a short, highly accessible citywide survey to gather broad input from residents and visitors about their expectations and priorities. This establishes the baseline community perspective that guides all subsequent engagement.

Phase 2: Community Engagement

In the second phase, we hold small, structured focus-group sessions to explore trends, clarify concerns, and dive deeper into themes identified in the survey. These sessions help us verify early findings and understand nuances across different community voices.

Phase 3: One-on-One Stakeholder Interviews

Finally, we conduct individual interviews with key stakeholders to validate the findings from earlier phases and capture more detailed insights. These conversations ensure leadership perspectives and critical community viewpoints are fully reflected in the strategic plan.
