Dove Springs Public Health Facility

A voter-approved neighborhood public health facility is coming to the Dove Springs community! But first, the City wants ideas on how this facility will serve the residents' needs.

In November of last year, voters approved $16 million for a new public health facility and services in the Dove Springs area. The goal is to offer a range of neighborhood center services to the community.

In the image you will see site options explored by the City (site A and B are restricted):

Site A: Restricted by water quality zone and flood plain

Site B: Restrictions by Texas Parks and Wildlife regulations for Dove Springs park boundaries

Proposed Site: Parkland adjacent to Dove Springs park boundaries (NW of the park in orange)

I am super excited for this facility and can’t wait to see what help and opportunities it will have in store a lot of great ideas and hope all or most services will be accepted.

An activated outdoor space is important since the building will be removing a large piece of green space that is used for formal and informal recreational activities such as soccer, football, cheerleading, chasing dogs, picnics, etc. Seating areas, outdoor classroom environments, a water feature with koi fish or a small splash pad, art installations, bike repair station, small outdoor amphitheater for community performances or movie nights, community gardens, etc.

More important than style of building is choosing materials that are lasting, affordable, but will help the community feel they are not low priority. Also, please consider turning the roof into a useable community space by including vegetation, sunscreens and seating/gathering spaces.

I would also like to see a community garden worked into the plan - maybe a collaboration with one of the nearby schools; walking trails between the park/rec center to the health center embodying the ties between physical activity and health; and extended hours including evenings and weekends. I'd also like to suggest an advisory committee of community members who can participate on a regular basis to give feedback, disseminate information, and build community consensus.
