Overview
On May 30, 2024, City Council adopted Ordinance No. 20240530-139 amending the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan to attach the Equitable Transit-Oriented Development (ETOD) Typologies. These Typologies group the Project Connect station areas into 8 categories. They consider existing population, displacement risk of households, and recent growth and economic development. They also speak to types of growth most needed for equitable outcomes in a station area.
Why Amend Imagine Austin?
On March 9, 2023, City Council directed staff to initiate amendments to the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan to reflect the ETOD Typologies when they accepted the ETOD Policy Plan (Spanish version) by Resolution No. 20230309-016.
Amending Imagine Austin to add the ETOD Typologies allows for formal consideration of ETOD in current zoning and land use decisions, and can help staff make decisions that are supportive of a station area’s ETOD needs. It also increases Austin’s competitiveness for the federal funding that will enable the construction of the Project Connect system.
